A problem frame is a problem saturated way of looking at the issue that we are trying to solve. Its like setting out for a walk and predicting all the holes in the sidewalk that are going to get in your way before you get to them. That can be a great way of being prepared, but its a terrible way of enjoying what youre doing right now. Even as a way of being prepared it doesnt work so well because it keeps us in a state of anxiety and fear.
Another way a problem frame can slow us down is by keeping us focussed on old past feelings that essentially bog us down. What we need instead is the ability to look ahead to the outcomes that we want. We need to look ahead to the good feelings that well have when the paper or project is finished or at least well on its way. When we focus on old feelings its like there is a part of our brain that cant let go of the old situation. Its almost like there is an obsessive compulsive part of our brain that insists on a total solution. That part of us insists on a solution even if it costs us big time. INTERVENTION: That is when we need something or someone outside of us to pull us out of our compulsive trancewhere we are stuck.
